I cannot believe it is reveal week, the last 8 weeks have flown by, and if I am being honest I could have used another two weeks to completely wrap this room (but boy am I grateful that they extended this competition from the original 6 weeks to 8).
Any who, I am rambling again, and you came here to read about our French Guest Room reveal, not poor time management aha. However I am happy to say that the room is DONE...I wasn't sure we'd be able to do it in time, because I had a ton of big ideas, and we were out of town for 16 of the 56 days, but by some miracle---and a lot of late nights we managed to get everything done, and (not to sound vain) but it looks truly beautiful!
My vision for this room was a Parisian escape. The inspiration for the room stemmed from these gorgeous vintage French drapes I found on etsy. They showcase beautiful peach roses and hints of grey green stripes and they brought a sense of classic elegance to the space.
From there I spent weeks trying to find the right paint to Pair with them, until ultimately landing on Farrow and Balls French grey. This was not an easy decision by any means, but at the end of the day, this shade gives the perfect grey green moodiness without feeling dark or drab. And by having the different sheens on the walls, molding and doors, the paint really pops and has a lot of movement throughout the room.
Another big project we completed for this reno was our DIY limestone inspired mantle. This is my favorite part of the room. This mantle is so gorgeous and feels exactly like real stone but we were able to build it for under $200! I know, I know you want a full tutorial, and lucky for you....I filmed one aha I will upload that on my instagram later this week and do a full blog post with the break down but for now lets just take a minute to appreciate the beauty of this beast...
The fireplace may be my favorite, but the new antique chandelier is definitely a close second! I tried to keep this guy a surprise...partly because it was in pretty rough condition when I first got it and I was not 100% sure it would clean up, but boy did it!
I feel like this chandelier transforms this room from a pretty guest room to a Parisian pied-à-terre! And the best part is, it was only $60.00! I spoke with the owner of one of my favorite antique stores and asked if she ever does a running list for customers, she said yes and I rolled out my very long list...and at the top was a Louis XV Crystal chandelier...a week later she texted me photos of this one and I was sold!
The final big addition to this room is our headboard, our original bed was very masculine and all metal, I loved the shape of the bed but industrial is just not my vibe, So to make it feel more cohesive with the space I opted to upholster the headboard in a fabric that would match our vintage curtains...however because this fabric is not something that is accessible, I had to work with a custom print shop to have it made.
I reached out to quite a few shop owners searching for help with creating this pattern, but the difficulty in matching up the pattern just right was too much for all but one....this amazing shop owner on etsy spent days altering the pattern to make it line up just right and I am just blown away by the service and quality product he provided. I could not recommend him enough for all of your custom needs.
As far as the rest of the furniture and mirrors in this room I purchased them all from my favorite auction site, LiveAuctioneers! You guys know I am addicted to antiques but sometimes the right piece is hard to find, but if you check out LIveauctioneers, your chances of finding the right piece will significantly improve!
So there she is, our first completed One Room Challenge in the books! I want to thank Better Homes and Gardens for hosting this challenge and pushing my husband and I to finish a project within two months rather than our typical 6 month drag out!
And don’t forget to follow along with the other amazing designers participating in the one room challenge and to follow spackleandshine on Instagram for daily updates! =)
