ORC Week 6 - French Guestroom brought to you by blue tape

Updated: Jun 20, 2021

I cannot believe it is already week 6 of the Better Homes and Garden, One Room Challenge, time is just going way too fast and I don’t like it one bit! I don’t have any mind blowing updates but I do have one big task that we were able to check off our list and that was Paint. I know week after week I’ve spoke about paint, but when you have plaster walls and you decide to transition from a dark navy to a lighter color.....a ton of time has to go into painting and painting prep has to go into the room! So after weeks of wood filling, sanding, priming, and taping we were able to wrap up the paint on all of the walls, trim, baseboard, crown, doors, and windows!

If you want more information on what paint we used check back to week two‘s post! We used multiple sheens and two different brands to get our final result....and let me just tell you, when the sun hits this room it has a magical look to it because the light dances off the different glossy pieces and creates such a gorgeous contrast! I will be completely transparent and admit that it’s not tome to completely hang up my paintbrush on this project....we still have the fireplace, the molding above the fireplace and the ceiling to do but the majority of the painting is DONE, and I sure as hell had a glass of wine to celebrate and made a giant blue tape ball out of all of the tape I used while painting the trim (I’m not sure why that was so satisfying ahha)!!

Aside from Paint, there was not a ton of physical work done inside of the room but I did find someone who could help me with my venture of duplicating my vintage French curtains...this was such a struggle because no matter how hard i tried i could never get the lines to be completely straight it was sooo frustrating because if it’s not perfect than the repeat will be totally off! many who after a ton of research i found this guy through Etsy.

I took individual photos of all of the flowers and stripes on the drapes and measured how far each of them were from each other. The vendor is in the process of creating a final mock up and then once i give the go ahead from that, he will express ship the fabric to me and i will get to work on sewing some curtains! Here’s hoping they will arrive quickly!

(the last photo was my final attempt to try and get the stripes straight for a photo—-it didn’t work out ahha)

This week, we plan on working on the fireplace mantle and depending on time we will work on painting the ceiling....speaking of ceiling I’ve been going back and forth on if i should change out the chandelier....the one we have in there currently is fine, but i feel like it’s a little too rustic farmhouse and I’d really love something with a bit more sparkle....rob may kill me for even mentioning this butttt if we are going to redo the room I feel like we need to do right 😜

I’d love to have a fixture that is gilded and possibly something with crystal (ya know just your typical unicorn light) so I’m on the hunt ahhaha so if anyone finds a light that resembles any of the one below, let your girl know! Ahahhaha
